Living in Igualada: charm and cultural richness in inland Catalonia.

Igualada, administrative capital of the Anoia region and located some 40 minutes from Barcelona, is a place full of charm where the preserved historic centre and its monuments merge with the newer surrounding areas, reflecting the era of expansion that this town is currently experiencing.

This is where one of our projects, Gestilar Cal Font, is located, with homes that also strike a balance between classical style and the latest design.

An enclave located between the sea and the mountains of inland Catalonia, which we are talking about in today’s blog. Do you want to find out more about this town?

Some places of interest: history and heritage.

To walk through the centre of Igualada is to walk through its history, allowing you to enjoy the remains of its ancient wall, large mediaeval porticos, or some of its enchanting covered streets.

There are some monuments of historical interest such as the Church of Saint Mary, considered to be the most important historic and artistic site in Anoia, dating from the seventeenth century.

Another of the treasures of Igualada is the Asil del Sant Crist, which is an example of the popular and traditional architecture of Catalonia as conceived by Joan Rubió i Bellver, a disciple of Gaudí.

Meanwhile, the textile industry has been one of the main activities in the area, and this is displayed at the Leather Museum of Igualada and the Region of Anoia, which holds its collections at the ‘Cal Boyer’ factory, a cotton textile factory from the late nineteenth century, and the ‘Cal Granotes’ tannery, one of the oldest in Europe.

Why live in Cal Font?

The privileged location of the Cal Font Development, in the very centre of the town, allows you to access all the services you need for your day-to-day activities and to enjoy the best leisure options. The dwellings are located next to the municipal Library, and are surrounded by the main shopping streets with retail outlets, restaurants, supermarkets, and pharmacies (such as Passeig Verdaguer and Rambla de Sant Isidre), while also being just minutes away from numerous places of interest such as schools or Igualada Hospital.

Also nearby is the ‘Estació Vella’ Park, a large wide open space of over 1.5 hectares, which as well as hosting many outdoor shows, is also the perfect place for those who love sport and outdoor activities.

Communications and Transport.

There are numerous urban and suburban bus routes that connect both the different areas of the town, and the town to other surrounding towns, which means that residents can get around easily, and it is worth highlighting route E5, an express bus route that links Igualada directly to Barcelona is just over an hour.

There is also a generous train service that connects with the capital of Catalonia, and has over 25 stops in various towns.

Meanwhile, to get around by car, you will find easy access to Barcelona on the A2 road, and there is also a network of roads that link it speedily to other towns of interests such as Lerida or Tarragona.
